JANE Burcham is to retire from Moredon Primary School after 26 years and pupils have said they will remember her as always smiling and helping, whether it in the classroom or the community.

In her time at the school Jane has filled numerous roles, from teacher to headteacher. She is currently special educational needs co-ordinator.

Staff and pupils gathered in the school’s hall for a special assembly to mark her departure. Pupils Maisie Costin, nine, said: “She’s always walking around the corridor, always with a smile on her face. She’s always there to help.”

Liam Sexton, 11, said: “When you see her inside or outside school there’s no difference. She’s always happy, never in a bad mood and always willing to help.”

Jane said: “I am very much a people person. I do love being with people. I just wanted to be a teacher.

“I would choose it all over again. It’s a wonderful career, a real privilege.

“The children are our future. I have worked with some great children as well as supportive staff and parents over the years.

She is expecting a new granddaughter this summer and has plans for numerous holidays in her spare time.
