THE gloves will be on for a charity boxing event in aid of Helen and Douglas House and Faringdon Fire Fighters this weekend.

This is the second year the event has been held to raise money for local causes.

Helen and Douglas House is a local hospice caring for families with children and young adults with life shortening conditions in the Swindon area, and has a shop in Regent Street.

Boxers training to take part in this event include Swindon’s Team KO, Swindon’s elite doormen, and the return of Big Ben Harding and his Jersey Boys. Also boxing at the event are Faringdon’s local firefighters and Brian Doyle from the Wheatsheaf in Faringdon.

There will also be an over 50s bout.

Melanie Richards, Swindon community fundraiser for Helen and Douglas House said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to Ben for organising this fantastic event in aid of us.

“We need to raise £5m a year to run the hospice with 85 per cent of this raised through donations.

“The money raised at this event will make a real difference to the lives of families who visit us from the Swindon and the surrounding area.”

The event takes place this Saturday from 7pm at Faringdon Leisure Centre, Fernham Road.

Tickets are available from the centre and the Wheatsheaf. Price £20 or £40 VIP.
