HOME and gardens will be the talk of the town this May bank holiday when The Brunel hosts the Flour Festival on the weekend of May 3 and 4.

A dedicated marquee in Wharf Green will be the stage for this weekend of gastronomy, gardening and interior design, which will introduce visitors to hundreds of great new ideas and inspiration to brighten up their homes and gardens and to tickle their tastebuds.

Across the weekend there will be cookery demonstrations from celebrity baker Tom Herbert of Channel 4’s Fabulous Baker Brothers fame, plus Ms Cupcake, the popular Melissa Morgan from London’s first entirely vegan bakery.

Fresh from London’s Ideal Home show, green-fingered TV gardener David Domoney will be inspiring shoppers on how to brighten up their gardens and get the most from their vegetable plots.

The Brunel’s two shopping malls, The Plaza and Arcade, will have sets dressed with home wares that will be available to buy at various shops within the shopping centre.

From this week, members of Swindon Artist’s Forum will be painting a mural of a garden to feature in one of the room sets. They can be seen creating the artwork every day until May 2 in the Brunel Arcade, opposite Shaw’s The Drapers.

Entertainment will also be provided over the weekend by power pop band The Courgettes. Dinner ladies, the good-time “girls” Freda and Rita, will be spreading their healthy eating message using comedy, music and dance.

The Flour Festival will take place from 11am until 4pm on Saturday May 3 and Sunday May 4.
