ROYAL Mail has announced that it is planning to relocate its Dorcan and Hawksworth delivery offices to a new premises.

The plans will see the two centres merge into one at Unit 2, Wheatstone House, Wheatstone Road, Dorcan.

These plans are part of the on-going transformation of operations across the country as the number of parcels handled increases, and the number of letters decreases.

The existing delivery offices no longer meet the requirements as they are cramped or multi-floor working sites.

The potential move is expected to take place between May and July. It will help to provide improved facilities for staff and customers. There would be improved onsite car parking for the red fleet of vehicles and better customer parking at the new location. The Swindon office is 0.1 miles from Dorcan Delivery Office and 4.8 miles from the Hawksworth Delivery Office.

Royal Mail’s Delivery Director for the Swindon area, Alan Gairns, said: “The relocation of these offices is part of Royal Mail’s ongoing transformation programme and is vital to put our business on a sound, secure and sustainable footing for the future.

“Our service to customers will continue to be a top priority during these changes and further details will be available in advance of the moves. Customers can be reassured that we will do all we can to minimise disruption to customers and ensure we maintain the high level of service they expect and deserve from Royal Mail.”

Customers will be able pick up mail after they receive a “something for you card” from the new office at Rowland Hill Close, Dorcan, Swindon SN3 5TQ. Alternatively, customers can arrange a redelivery free of charge on a day that is convenient for them. In addition, the item can be delivered to a different address within the same postcode area or customers can arrange collection from a nearby Post Office branch.

Mr Gairns added: “We do not expect any disruption to the service we provide to customers when this move goes ahead. Mail deliveries and collections from business customers, postboxes and Post Office branches will continue as normal.

“More information will be shared with our people and our customers as details are finalised.”
