NOREMARSH Junior School parent Jeremy Smith is taking on more than 1,000 miles to raise money for an outdoor classroom.

The 50-year-old from Royal Wootton Bassett is taking on the Land’s End to John O’Groats cycle challenge in three stages, and has already completed the first leg from Land’s End to Wootton Bassett.

He said: “I turned 50 this year and to celebrate I wanted to do something a little bit different.

“On Monday I will start cycling to Sunderland, which is where my football team is from.

“After that I’ll cycle from Sunderland on to John O’Groats.”

Jeremy hopes to raise £2,500 for the project to build the outdoor classroom, which will see a shelter put up over a section of the playground for the children to play, eat, and work under.

Noremarsh headteacher, Andy Simpson said: “We are thinking about putting up a wooden structure or a structure of sails just to create an outdoor classroom.

“It means that if a teacher can see a pupil through the window they might say they can go and read their book outside.

“It will also mean that the children can have lunch outside and use the playground underneath the shelter.”
