MUSICIAN Phil Spalding who has worked with Elton John, Mick Jagger and Robbie Williams shared his years of experience with Commonweal School pupils on Tuesday.

Bassist Phil, 56, worked with two newly formed bands at the Old Town school and taught them how to play a song. The Overtones learned how to play Teenage Kicks by The Undertones and The One Man Band were taught Kings Of Leon song Use Somebody.

Phil said: “It was great, I worked with one group in the morning and the other in the afternoon and it was a pleasure. “The students were great and really engaged with their songs “And I think that they did themselves proud.

“The kids were of a high standard and most of them could perform to a better level than I could when I was their age. “It was a great day and I think the school’s music department deserve a lot of credit as they have nurtured the young people’s talent.”

Phil said he hopes to continue working with both the bands and he would be pleased to work with other children from Commonweal School.
