A NEW exhibition showcasing three months worth of work opened to the public at Artsite yesterday.

Freedoms and Restrictions, on display at the centre in Theatre Square, features work from 10 members of The Experimental Drawing Hub. The launch drew in some of the Bank Holiday Monday crowds, with the exhibition running between 10am until 4pm daily until Sunday.

Work from artist Paul Exton, a founder of the drawing group, is part of the exhibition. He said: “We did a lot of work in the build up and the exhibition is the fruit of that effort. “We all had certain areas to look at how freedoms and restrictions affect artists. “My work for this was organic and geometric shapes. “As a geometric artist to start working in a organic form was quite a challenge but then to break through and feel comfortable was very rewarding.

“This has been a heck of a challenge for us and we are really happy with the quality of the exhibition. “We are very excited that we’ve opened our doors to the public and look forward to welcoming lots and lots of people to see Freedoms and Restrictions.”

The group held an exhibition preview on Friday and all the artwork, including drawings, painting and models, is now on sale to visitors. Once the exhibition finishes the Experimental Drawing Hub will move on to their next project.

Paul said: “We are going to have a short break for a while as it has been an intense couple of months for us. Then we’ll come back refreshed in a few weeks, ready to start something new.”

The Experimental Drawing Hub meets at Artsite’s studio, Number Nine, across from where the current exhibition is based, on Saturday mornings. Paul said the group would welcome new artists to be part of their forthcoming projects.
