High hopes for charity

Swindon Advertiser: Lorna Goodwin, who climbed Ben Nevis and did Zumba to raise money for Cancer Research UK Lorna Goodwin, who climbed Ben Nevis and did Zumba to raise money for Cancer Research UK

FITNESS fanatic Lorna Goodwin climbed to the rooftop of Britain to perform a Zumba session for Cancer Research UK.

The fitness instructor from Wanborough climbed to the summit of Ben Nevis in the Scottish Highlands on Saturday to raise money for the cancer charity.

She also sent a video of her routine at the top of the 1,200m mountain to the Guiness Book of Records to see if it will be accepted in the ‘Zumba at the highest altitude in the UK’ category.

Lorna was inspired to do the challenge after one of her friends, Graham Henly from Lechlade, was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer.

She said: “I was devastated when I found out he had terminal lung cancer. It’s difficult to comprehend that it could happen to somebody close to you. You can’t imagine that person not being there.”

When she heard the news Lorna decided to do something to help by raising money.

She said: “I think cancer is something that has affected so many people. Everyone knows someone who has had cancer. “After my friend was diagnosed with lung cancer I decided I wanted to do something to raise money so I said I would do a Zumba routine at the top of Ben Nevis. I wanted to do something that was a bit different so I decided to do this.”

Lorna’s target was originally to raise £1,500, but since she did the challenge more and more donations have poured in and she has raised more than £1,700.

“I think with paper donations as well I have raised more than £2,000, but donations are still coming in so I don’t know how high the total will be. I am just overwhelmed with all the support people have given me.”
