CLASSIC car enthusiasts flocked to Royal Wootton Bassett High Street on Saturday for a display.

From 9am to 1pm around 30 vehicles dating from the 1930s lined the High Street underneath the Town Hall in a display put on by the Royal Wootton Bassett Classic Car Club.

Committee member Bill Baines, 73, said: “It went very well. We had a very good turn out and, of course, we have been lucky with the weather. The forecast was awful but we were quite lucky.”

Cars on display included a 1934 Bedford Truck complete with wartime white trim, a 1957 Rover 60 and several MGs, Minis and a Morris 8.

Bill said the main attraction of car displays was the nostalgia.

He said: “A lot of people come along for the nostalgia. They look at the cars and they say ‘I used to have one of those’ or they say ‘Ooh, I remember those’ and they remember seeing them around when they were younger. They also carry a lot of memories for people and they like to remember the past.”

The show was just one of several the Royal Wootton Bassett Classic Car Club will be holding this year.
