ROYAL Wootton Bassett welcomed in a new mayor last Friday at a special ceremony at St Bartholomew and All Saints’ Church in the High Street.

At a special meeting, which also included the town council’s annual general meeting, the town said farewell to outgoing mayor Linda Frost and welcomed her successor, the current deputy mayor, Susan Hughes.

Susan has been a Royal Wootton Bassett town councillor for three years and has already announced that her nominated charity for the year will be homelessness support group the Filling Station.

She said: “Living a life of benefits created by the work of my family and community, I can see how good things can be. Volunteering for the Filling Station, I can see what life can look like without that.

“It is the contrast of these lives that motivates me to give back to my community in gratitude for what I have had, and to make some mark in bridging the gap for those who haven’t had.”
