Emma Dunn discovers comedian Lee Evans has some work in progress

COMEDY favourite Lee Evans will be trying (and sweating) out new material on a Swindon audience when he comes to the Wyvern Theatre next week.

Tickets have already sold out to watch the record-breaking star perform gags and observations from his forthcoming Monsters arena tour on Wednesday at 8pm.

Lee Evans – Work in Progress will see the comic referring to notes for his performance, and the laughs he raises in Swindon could influence what makes it into the tour.

The winner of the British Comedy Awards outstanding contribution to comedy award and the highly-coveted Perrier Award, Lee has become one of Britain’s highest selling stand-ups with his Roadrunner tour grossing £12.9m.

Monsters is his most ambitious tour yet, scheduled to play for more than 50 nights at arenas across the UK and Ireland.

Lee rose to fame during the 1990s with loud, hot, sweaty, energetic stage shows and physical observational comedy.

His humorous physicality has also gained him West End stage and Hollywood film success.

He made his stage debut in End Game, was nominated for an Olivier award for his part in The Producers and received the London Theatre Goer’s Choice Award performing in the Harold Pinter play The Dumb Waiter.

His Hollywood appearances include The Fifth Element, Mouse Hunt and comedy classic There’s Something About Mary.
