PUNTERS at the Shield and Dagger pub were in fine voice on Friday night as they raised £100 for the Adver’s 160 Appeal for Prospect Hospice.

Between 50 and 60 people enjoyed karaoke put on by Grumpy Old Man Entertainment held to raise money for the Wroughton-based charity following coverage in the paper.

Rod Wheatley, who runs Grumpy Old Man, said he was delighted with the amount raised by the pub’s patrons and thanked those who donated.

He said: “Myself and Roger Hemns usually go up to the Shield and Dagger once a month to put the karaoke on but this time we wanted to have a whip round for the Prospect.

“Everyone was in the spirit of it and to raise £100 from those that were there was great. We had one bloke who really enjoyed himself and his version of ‘I’ve Got a Brand New Combine Harvester’ went down well.

“I have to thank Sally Fear, the landlord, for letting us have a collection on the night – even the people in the bar got involved, while we were in the lounge, so that was nice.”

Grumpy Old Man Entertainment visit the Thames Avenue pub on the last Friday of every month. Search for them on Facebook for more details or to book.
