A TOTAL of £100,000 will be ploughed into facilities at Swindon Supermarine FC between now and October after planning permission was granted for a 3G football pitch.
Swindon Council passed the planning application on Friday, paving the way for a new surface and floodlighting to be installed on the vacant patch of grass east of Webbswood Stadium.
Jez Webb, the chairman at Supermarine, lodged the application back in February for a facility which the club has been crying out for.
“A lot of our sports facilities are very limited from November onwards, regarding light and surface, so with there being 170 children signed up under the Swindon Supermarine youth set-up, we felt it was needed,” he said.
“It’s a massive set-up and it’s growing and expanding at a rate of knots. We want to keep the children onside.
“We want training facilities for the first team as well.
“The actual fee from beginning to end, including all the floodlights, is going to be over £100,000.
“There are a few local companies who are very supportive and making noises about coming on-board to meet that cost.
They will be rewarded in the end.”
He said he hopes the project will move forward at speed now, with aims to have it completely finished and opened to players before the end of October this year.
