HUNDREDS of children are expected to descend on Lydiard Park this week to attend a number of half term events.

All week families can head along to the house to take part in a number of activities, including outdoor trails, crafts workshops, interactive story telling and family challenges.

Events and Hospitality Assistant at Lydiard House and Park, Kat Dixon, hopes that the sun will shine and encourage families to make the most of the weather at Lydiard.

She said: “Being an outdoor park the weather can be an issue so we are hoping that the weather will be nice and lots of families will come along.

“All the activities will be great fun and it’s also a good opportunity for families to have a look around Lydiard House and Park.

“There’s lots of events for children during half term and plenty of things to do during the week.”

On Tuesday, families took part in the Fun Family Challenge, weaving their way around a self-led trail to solve clues and enjoy nature from 11am to 2pm.

Yesterday they took part in an interactive story telling session with Frederick the Fox Club with a special puppet show for children aged seven and over.

Kat said: “It’s an opportunity to get out the house into the outdoors and make the most of everything we have going on in our bit of countryside in the town centre.”

Today, visitors can take part in the Wild in the Woods activity by joining Robin Hood and becoming part of his band of Merry Men.

There will also be a chance to learn traditional crafts and how to survive in the great outdoors, build a woodland fortress or have a go at making Merry Men Medallions.

There will be two two-hour sessions taking place from 10am to 12pm and from 1pm to 3pm. The cost is £10 per child and £3 per adult.

Kat said: “During the week visitors can also enjoy the Frederick the Fox Cub Seasonal Trail around the park.

“At Lydiard House, visitors can view the Customs and Crafts exhibition and take part in the Mouse Trail.

It is the last chance people have to visit the Customs and Crafts Exhibition, which features work from the local branch of the West Country Embroiderers who were inspired by the crafts and customs in large houses and estates.

All children must be accompanied by an adult for all the May half-term events.
