CRIME commissioner Tony Lloyd says police need to break down barriers faced by people with disabilities.
Mr Lloyd, Greater Manchester’s crime commissioner, made the comments as part of a two-week period where people with sight or hearing loss are encouraged to share their experiences with police.
The awareness drive follows National Deaf Awareness Week, which took place last week.
Mr Lloyd said: “It’s quite right that our police service should serve all members of our community, including those with alternative communication needs. If that means finding ways to improve access to the police then these are things GMP need to look at.”
