THE FINAL countdown has begun for a mother-daughter duo determined to raise £5,800 for cancer sufferers by cycling 400km across Cuba.

After months of fundraising, Michelle Bentham and Faye O’Donoghue, of Greenbridge, are just £1,219 short of their target.

But the deadline is looming large and the pair only have until the first week of July to collect the remaining sum to be able to join the five-day Women V Cancer Cycle from Havana to Santa Clara in aid of Ovarian Cancer Action, Breast Cancer Care and Jos Cervical Cancer Trust.

“We have already received £3,425, my company Thames Water have donated £656 and Michelle’s company David Wilson Homes have donated £500,” said Faye, 26.

“We will step up the training dramatically once we reach the target.”

To reach their target, they will hold a final fundraiser - a dog racing night - at Swindon Greyhounds, Abbey Stadium, on June 13 from 8pm. Tickets cost £5 and are available at www.facebook.com/fayeandmichellecyclecuba.
