Special charity curry night is second to naan

Swindon Advertiser: Helen Powell, of weight loss business All About Weight, who is hosting a curry night at Bombay Lounge for Aplastic Anaemia Research Helen Powell, of weight loss business All About Weight, who is hosting a curry night at Bombay Lounge for Aplastic Anaemia Research

HUNDREDS of pounds for the Aplastic Anaemia Trust are being counted up after a fundraising curry night was held at the Bombay Lounge in Peatmoor.

Helen Powell, whose 20-year-old daughter Bethany suffers with the bone marrow disease, co-ordinated the spice night following the exploits of weight loss supremo Chris Bint.

Chris, whom the Adver reported on last year after he lost six stone in 12 months, completed an arduous bike ride on the Isle of Wight earlier this month in aid of the charity after Helen’s help with his weight loss.

Helen, 42, a mother-of-three, is a consultant with All About Weight. She gathered friends and family to the curry house on Tuesday night for funds towards the charity.

“We are hoping it’s a couple of hundred pounds, but we're still counting,” she said.

“People came to support Chris because he’s lost a lot of weight.

“There were also a lot of my daughter’s friends there because of her condition.

“There were about 50 people in the end. The owners were brilliant with us. They were rushing around for us, making us feel comfortable.”

Helen, of Pearl Road in Middleleaze, said the Trust has provided a buddy support system for her daughter, which pairs her up with another sufferer similar to her age.

It is this support and the research into the disease it does, which have spurred Helen into action.

“She's all quite overwhelmed by it all,” said Helen of her daughter. “She looks well and beautiful, but she suffers inside.

“She gets very tired, but she was overwhelmed by how many people had turned out for her.”
