COLEG Gwent has been recognised for its work in engaging students in sport.

The Crosskeys campus of Coleg Gwent has been presented with the British Colleges Sport ‘College of the Year’ Award for its ongoing hard work developing student opportunities within the college as well as their considerable contributions to BCS.

The award was presented by Gary Cartwright from sponsors Molten at a gala dinner at St George’s Park in Bristol. Each regional sport operations officer was invited to nominate a college for the award for their significant contributions to BCS in developing student opportunities for students and/or staff through sport, developing college sport regionally or nationally and working in partnership with other BCS member colleges locally, regionally or nationally.

Crosskeys campus beat off competition from around the UK, with Derby College in the East Midlands coming in second place.

Mererid Dark, sports lecturer at Coleg Gwent Crosskeys, said “Being awarded the British Colleges Sport College of the Year Award is an outstanding achievement for us. It’s a reflection of the hard work and commitment of the staff and positive contributions from the students.”
