A NEW nightclub aiming to attract new faces to Swindon town centre and give it a welcome boost is opening this weekend.

Medina, based in Theatre Square, will open to the public at 10pm tomorrow night, playing a mix of funk, R‘n’B and chart music. It is based next to Foxies gentleman’s club, with both nightspots being owned by Dave Broome.

Sam Fox is the manager of the new nightclub and hopes that the venue will attract revellers into the town centre from Old Town.

He said: “This is a really exciting opportunity as the town centre isn’t great for going out at the minute. Plus, when you speak to people who go out in Swindon, they either say they go out to the town centre or Old Town but never switch over, but we hope to offer something which will please both crowds.

“We are next door to Foxies but this is a totally different venture from it.”

Medina has enjoyed significiant investment and yesterday staff were putting finishing touches to the venue before it holds a VIP opening this evening.

Sam said: “I think it looks great and I hope people like Medina. DJ Scott, who plays at Mackenzies in Old Town, will be playing at our opening tonight which we are holding to say thank you to all the people who have supported us as we’ve worked hard to get the club open.”

Medina will be open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday each week, with the venue having a licence to open until 6am. It will be for over-21s with a smart dress code.

Sam believes that the club is opening at the perfect time, given the major improvements coming to the town centre. In the autumn the nearby Regent Circus development, homing a Cineworld and a number of popular chain restaurants, will open.

Sam said: “We believe this is perfect timing for us and we are really looking forward to opening. A lot of hard work has gone into the club and we believe it will be a big benefit to the town centre night scene.

“Even though tomorrow is Friday the 13th we are expecting our official opening to be a really good night and one we just can’t wait for.”

To mark its opening, the club will have a selection of drinks offers available to its customers.
