Park pest is hassling the public
POLICE are hunting for a man who appears in the same location at specific times of the week causing distress to the public.
The middle-aged man has been seen in Meadowcroft Park regularly on Tuesdays and Thursdays, usually between 3.15pm and 4pm, but he has so far proved elusive to officers. He has been provoking reactions from people who have taken to the sun to walk their dog or enjoy the park.
The man has been acting suspiciously, often approaching and intimidating others.
He is thought to be recognisable, and due to the specific nature of his movements is likely to be known to someone locally.
He has been seen wearing a distinctive T-shirt, bearing the logo Bomberos Zaragoza – thought to refer to the fire department in Zaragoza, Spain.
He is described as white, tall, in his late 40s and with grey or blond thinning hair.
During the times in which the man visits the park pupils are making their way home from school, and residents are concerned for the safety of the children.
Brian Wood, 28, of Meadowcroft, said he was concerned for his little brothers who live in the area.
“I can’t say I have seen him around but it is quite shocking,” he said. “If he was doing that in front of me I would have a few things to say about it.
“It is quite a worrying thing to hear, particularly with all the kids coming home from school. I have got a little girl, but luckily she doesn’t live round here.
“My little brothers live just round the corner as well, and it is a bit annoying that someone is going round doing this.
“You’ve got to ask why he would be doing it, because I’ve got no idea why he would want to make a scene in front of kids, especially the ones who walk home on their own.
“Maybe he just wants to make a nuisance of himself. You never know with some people.”
Police would like to speak to the man wearing the distinctive T-shirt, and are appealing for anyone who knows him to come forward.
A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: “The male has been acting suspiciously and intimidating in the Meadowcroft Park area on various Tuesdays and Thursdays between 3.15pm and 4pm.”
If anyone has any information or knows his identity they should call Wiltshire Police on the non-emergency number 101 quoting crime reference 44377.
