New McDonald's applies for 24-hour premises licence

Swindon Advertiser: McDonald's has applied for a premises licence at its new Abbots Cross restaurant McDonald's has applied for a premises licence at its new Abbots Cross restaurant

MCDONALD’S has applied for a premises licence which will allow it to serve hot food and drink 24 hours a day at its new restaurant in Abbots Cross.

Swindon Council granted planning permission for a seventh burger joint from in March and will now decide this licence.

The application was made last Friday and anyone who wishes to make representations must make them in writing before Friday, July 11.

The two-storey restaurant and drive-thru will be built on the boarded-up former site of the Abbots Cross petrol station, with traffic entering the site from Great Western Way.

Sadly it just goes to show how we are becoming a stupid society and business take advantage and play to the lowest common denominator. Self inflicted obesity costs the economy £Billions in lost work days and health care not to mention the smell!!!

if you dont think we are a stupid society, look no further than last week when the main news items were around what is happening in Iraq and that the Governor of the Bank of England had said that interest rates may go up this year effecting millions (unless you are on benefit of course), but the moron tabloids led with Harrison Ford breaking his ankle on the Star Wars Set because they know thats what most people are more interested in! Good to see today though proposals to stop purely cosmetic surgery on the NHS, boob jobs, tummy tucks, gastric bands etc for the lazy and weak. to many people just need to grow a pair and learn the meaning of the word responsibility but sadly far too many ant even spell it (which is no doubt someone else's fault!)

Go feed yourself, have 3 Big Macs, you've obviously been nurtured by your parents for the quick fix meal, now you can't stop eating the crap, go and get some real food, grow some, you might need the exercise :-D

Swindon has obesity issues why......?
As others have said a little of something isnt necessarily bad for you but a quick look at the actual "ingredients" should put most off eating it.

Its great that jobs are being provided and money into the local economy but is this really the direction the town wants to move in?
Greggs, pound shops and McDonalds are these indicators of a recovering town?
I wonder what money thinks when it comes to the town looking to invest...?

It's important not to take these types of annoucements in isolation.

McDonalds brings prosperity, to the tune of £9m a year, to the town and gives younger people a chance to experience work and gain some real life skills with which to move into more permanent jobs. It also allows people who are studying or who have families to fit in some working hours around their priorities. They are know for being one of the cleanest, most hygienic chains in the world and are considered good employers. Their food is also perfectly acceptable as long as you're not eating it on a frequent basis.

At the other end of the scale, Swindon has just seen Waitrose invest in its most advanced store in the country and we have the £50+m complex shortly to open at Regents Circus. Then there's Honda and Nationwide's massive investment in the town.

Things maybe aren't as dire as some seem keen to imply.
