IRISH travellers have set up camp in the Waitrose car park in Marlborough.

Police were told by a member of the public that gipsies had moved onto land in George Lane and Hillers Lane yesterday.

A second group of travellers arrived and set up an illegal camp in the same area this morning.

There are four caravans on the land, which have all been served with notices asking them to leave.

Police are expected to move them from the land under Section 61 powers and they are expected to have left by the end of the day.

Wiltshire Council will inspect the car park once the travellers have been removed.

It is believed that Marlborough College is on alert and have stationed its security vehicle outside the sports fields which gypsies moved onto in August 2012.
