THE Royal British Legion has launched the 14-18 Legacy Project which will see young people across the country aiming to raise £1m for the charity over the next four years.

The project commemorates 100 years since the start of the First World War and urges schools and young children to get involved by holding fundraising events in aid of the The Royal British Legion.

In the process they will also develop a deeper understanding of the First World War. The 14-18 Legacy Project is the brainchild of headteacher Peter Rowland, following a previous fundraising initiative in 2011 when schools in Gloucestershire raised £73,000 for the Poppy Appeal.

It was launched at Gloucester Docks on June 21 to celebrate the city’s Armed Forces Day.

The legion is calling on schools across the country, including Swindon, to get involved.
