SOUTH Swindon MP Robert Buckland has praised the work of staff at the Farleigh Further Education College, in Old Town, during a visit.

The college is celebrating 10 years of supporting young people by providing specialist education for students with social and communication difficulties and complex diagnoses such as autism and Asperger’s syndrome.

Mr Buckland said: “I was delighted to be able to visit Farleigh and see firsthand the college’s valuable work for people in the local community. I would like to thank staff and students alike for their warm welcome.”

Over the last 10 years the college has supported and helped more than 200 young people make the transition into employment and further education.

Working in close partnership with the local community, students receive tailored support to help their development and are encouraged to be more independent, which is seen as vital for their long-term futures.

Martin Bentham, Farleigh’s principal, said: “Achieving excellent outcomes for students is our primary aim and we are very proud that Ofsted have endorsed the quality of the college in recent inspection visits.

“We were very pleased to have Robert on site today and showcase the great work done to support students in all they do.”
