THE MOTORWAY was closed for nearly six hours early this morning following a crash involving two cars.

At 2.20am, a black Renault Clio collided with the rear of a silver Land Rover Discovery near junction 17 of the M4. As a result, the Renault Clio struck the hard shoulder protection barrier and caught fire.

The driver of the Land Rover, having hit the central reservation and rebounded on to the hard shoulder, got out and rescued a rear seat passenger in the Renault Clio, who was unconscious, before the car was fully engulfed.

All three occupants of the car were taken by land ambulance to Southmead Hospital in Bristol.

The road was closed at 2.45am until 8am.

Anyone with information should call police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

I would like to say that the other driver is no hero the other driver refused to give help in any way shape or form a passer by stopped and assisted these people after his own sister helpped him from the car and it would be nice if a news group could research facts before printing and making false HEROS and upsetting a deeply hurt family

That other driver should be so ashamed of himself. How could he stand by and watch an injured young lady struggle to drag her brother from the car and do nothing. My Grand daughter was the hero. She had no thought of herself, even though she had injuries. All she cared about was saving her brother. Thank you so much to the taxi driver who did stop to help. I thank you from the bottom of my heart... Jordans and Caz'sNan
