A MAN was airlifted to Southampton General Hospital’s major trauma centre after sustaining spinal injuries in an accident at a motorcross event.
The man in his 20s came off his motorcross bike at Grittenham Motorcross Track near Royal Wootton Bassett on Sunday, July 13, during an event.
Wiltshire Air Ambulance was called to the scene at 1.45pm and arrived ten minutes later.
A spokesman from the Wiltshire Air Ambulance said: “There was a male in his 20s who had fallen from a motorcross bike. He was treated for suspected spinal injuries and a possible pelvic injury.
“Wiltshire Air Ambulance use critical care paramedics which means we have received more training than land paramedics. It means we can carry more drugs, including ketamine.
“It meant that paramedics at the scene were also able to administer an advanced analgesia.
“He was then airlifted to the major trauma centre at Southampton General Hospital and arrived there in 15 minutes, which is a pretty good time, where staff at the hospital the took over.”
Wiltshire Police were also called to the scene to assist at about 1.50pm.
