GOLFERS teed off for Prostate Cancer UK at the seventh Annual Charity Golf Day by the Rotary Club of Royal Wootton Bassett Town earlier this month.

Eighteen teams took part in the 18-hole Texas Scramble at Woodbridge Park Golf Club in Brinkworth, which pitted the skills of a number of low-handicap players from golf clubs around the county against the enthusiasm and knowledge of some local golfers.

The day raised more than £1,600 for Prostate Cancer UK, which is the chosen charity of newly-inducted president Ceri Pridding who was also presented prizes to the winners.

John Walduck, of the Rotary Club said: “Apart from a couple of showers early in the day, we could not have asked for better weather and the sun and barbecue held the returning golfers together until the final group came in and the prizes were awarded. It was a long day, but thoroughly worthwhile for everyone associated with the event.”

The Weighbridge Brewery sponsored the first prize of a brewery tour and meal for four won by team ‘Fisherman’s Friends’, and Marsh Farm Hotel gave four bottles of whisky for the second prize – won by the team ‘Wiltshire Mix Bag’.

The £1,000 hole-in-one prize was not won, and local golf professional Richard Lawless volunteered to be challenged on the nearest the pin eighth hole and provided an additional prize of four golf lessons won by Rotarian Tony Llewellyn’s Team.
