CONNECTING Wiltshire, the county’s travel advice service offered by the council, has teamed up with sustainable transport charity Sustrans to launch the Connecting Wiltshire Travel Challenge in September.

The interactive online competition will see workplaces around the county competing to clock up the most journeys made by walking, cycling, public transport and car sharing throughout the month of September.

Participants will be able to upload their journeys onto the website, where they can see not only how many calories they’ve burned and the amount of money they’ve saved by choosing healthy, green and cheap alternatives to driving, but also how their workplace is faring against other local businesses involved.

Eleanor Wratten, Connecting Wiltshire Workplace Engagement Officer, said: “The Travel Challenge is a great way to get people across Wiltshire thinking about the way they travel to work every day.

“By swapping the car journey for walking, cycling or public transport, you can explore your local area and be more active, all while saving money. And most of all, it’s fun.”

Rewards wiil include tickets to Stonehenge, vouchers for canoe hire in Bradford-on-Avon and rail ticket vouchers. Prizes will be awarded for a range of reasons including for the most journeys by walking, cycling or public transport, and the workplace with the highest proportion of staff taking part.
