WILTSHIRE Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault in the town centre in which a man needed 15 stitches to his eye.

The incident took place at 3.15am on Sunday, August 17 in Bridge Street.

A 25-year-old man was approached by a group of men who assaulted him.

The victim was punched to the ground where he was kicked several times. As a result of the incident, he needed 15 stitches for an eye injury.

As a result of police inquiries, three men, have been arrested for causing actual bodily harm and have been released on police bail pending further inquiries.

One was aged 19 and two were 20.

Wiltshire Police are seeking information on two other members of the group.

The first is described 20 5ft 10ins and wearing camouflage trousers.

He had a distinctive haircut with his head shaved on both sides and a long ponytail on top of his head.

The second is described as being of a similar age and height to the first suspect.

He had short dark hair and was wearing a short sleeved shirt and jeans.

It is also believed that a woman in the area filmed the incident on her mobile phone.

Local crime investigator Tracey McNeil said: “This was an unprovoked attack which left a man with serious injuries.

“I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the assault or who may know the men involved to come forward immediately.

“I would also appeal to the woman who is thought to have captured the assault on her phone to contact us.

“A robust police investigation is under way, including a review of all CCTV in the area."
