STUDENTS past and present will descend on Churchfields Academy to celebrate the school’s 50th birthday at a special fete.

On September 13 hundreds are expected to visit the school in Salcombe Grove to take part in the celebrations and mass reunion which will take place from 10am to 12pm.

Open to everyone, there will be a wide range of activities at the birthday fete and small businesses are supporting the event by taking stalls.

Principal Sharon Kirwan said: “This year is one of celebration for all students and staff, both past and present. It’s a privilege to be here at this time and to be part of the Golden Anniversary celebrations taking place throughout the academic year 2014/15.”

During the afternoon, not only will visitors be able to take a tour of the school which has been running since 1964 but they will be able to browse stalls with books, jewellery, cakes, beauty products, and make-up.

They will also be able to take part in activities such as hair-braiding, holistic massage and a bouncy castle.

Students and staff will also be running stalls to fundraise and to showcase some of the work done by young people in the academy today.

Also on sale will be copies of the latest edition of Swindon Heritage magazine which includes a four-page spread on the academy and its past.
