A TEAM of adventurers from a power company’s Swindon headquarters trekked 26 miles along Hadrian’s Wall last weekend in aid of cancer sufferers around the country, raising more than £4,200.

On Saturday Barbara Pocock, Terry Ash, Elaine Newman, Angela Thompson, Wendy Spooner, Jane Speirs and Clare McDougall walked for 12 hours along the 2,000 year-old wall with about 50 other npower stsaff from across the UK for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The Hadrian’s Wall challenge was part of the firm’s ‘10 for 10’ campaign to mark 10 years of partnership with the charity.

The appeal aims to help Macmillan ensure no one has to face cancer alone by raising £150,000, which the energy supplier vows to match pound for pound.

Facilities administrator Jane said: “I was slow and steady but I’m pleased that my practice paid off as this was a mission for me and Macmillan.

“We have a great partnership with this charity, which makes each and every employee conscious of our social responsibility.”

Clare McDougall, head of community at the firm, added: “Macmillan means a lot to the people of npower, and the fact that we’ve already raised over £85,000 this year is testament to that.

“Part of the money raised will go towards funding new energy advisers on the Macmillan Support Line. These advisers refer people living with cancer, who are struggling to pay their energy bills, to the partnership’s fuel management programme – as well as other schemes.” Call the support line on 0808 808 0000.
