POLICE have urged people to be on their guard after a series of burglaries in Wroughton.

The incidents have occurred in recent weeks, involving a number of residential properties, prompting police to release CCTV images of a man they are keen to speak to in connection with the break-ins in a bid to eliminate him from their investigation.

However, despite the number of recent incidents, which police say have involved thieves breaking in through insecure rear windows of the houses, officers said the number of incidents in the Wroughton area was low.

But Wiltshire Police are particularly keen to speak to a man who has been seen acting suspiciously in the Wroughton area during the late evening.

PC James Button urged households to be aware of the threat posed by burglars and to remove any items which could be used to gain access.

“Wroughton is an extremely safe place to live in, however, we have seen a slight increase in the number of burglaries and attempted burglaries of houses in the last few weeks,” he said.

“We would always advise local residents to keep their houses secure by closing and locking downstairs windows and removing any tools from gardens which could be used to assist entry into a property.”

Anyone with information about the burglaries should contact Wiltshire Police on 101, or the Swindon Police Priority Crime Team on 01793 507912.

Information can also be left anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
