TITCH Ockwell is on cloud nine after being reunited with his guardian angel following an Adver appeal.

The 86-year-old contacted the newspaper after being helped by a young woman while shopping at Tesco, in Ocotal Way, on Friday, August 29.

As well as helping when some of his shopping fell over, the woman offered to pay Titch’s bill, which he politely declined, before giving him a box of chocolates and leaving the scene without divulging her identity.

Lucy Shavliuk, 25, was the Good Samaritan and contacted the Adver after our story.

And this week the pair were finally reunited at the supermarket on Thursday afternoon with Titch giving a thank you card to his helper.

Titch, of Windsor Road, said: “This lady has been an absolute angel to me.

“I was a bit nervous coming down here today but when I met Lucy again I was so, so happy. I have told all my friends that she is my angel.”

Lucy, a business centre manager who works in Cirencester, said she was delighted to help Titch.

She said: “I was really shocked to see it in the newspaper.

“I went to Tesco to do my shopping and I was standing in the queue and saw this elderly gentleman and I just wanted to help him.

“I offered to pay but he refused, being a gentleman, but I caught him in the car park and I had this big box of chocolates and gave it to him.”

Lucy, who is also a concert piantist, trained at the world-famous Moscow Academy, said she was reluctant to come forward because she didn’t believe her actions were out of the ordinary.

She said: “I wasn’t keen on coming forward but I knew it would hurt this wonderful man’s feelings if I didn’t.

“I hope people will read this and be inspired to help others as we are all going to be old one day and it would be nice to think there might be someone out there to help us.

“I didn’t really want any attention but I do think this is a great story and I think if we saw more stories like this in the paper the world would be a much better place.”

The pair intend to remain good friends and Lucy has offered help to Titch whenever he needs it.

Lucy, of Queens Road, said: “We are looking at going out for dinner some time and I also want to come and play piano for him.

“I just love him, as he’s a real gentleman, and I think we’ll become good friends.”
