A DOZEN theatre workers paid homage to the lead character of this year’s panto while raising money for a good cause.

Staff from the Wyvern Theatre completed the 25km route of Thames Path Challenge, paying tribute to Dick Whittington, who famously made his way to London to seek fame and fortune.

And the group met up with actor Lewis Barnshaw, who plays Simple Simon in this year’s pantomime, in Bishop’s Park, near Putney Bridge, before their walk.

The team raised more than £2,000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital during the walk.

“I am proud of all the team from Wyvern Theatre whose determination to complete the challenge was so impressive,” said Theatre Director Derek Aldridge.

“I loved the walk and definitely feel we are on the right path for a successful panto season.”

During the run of this year’s pantomime, in addition to collections for the charity after every performance, Lewis Barnshaw will be helping to raise funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital in collaboration with Cassie Creations Photography.

After the matinee performance each Saturday, Cassie Creations Photography will be in the theatre’s café offering families the opportunity to have a photo with Simple Simon.

Lewis will star as Simple Simon alongside Nigel Havers as King Rat, in Dick Whittington from Saturday, December 6.
