10 THINGS TO DO IN AND AROUND SWINDON THIS WEEKEND:

  • BISHOPSTONE Duck Hunt gets underway this weekend. Visit the village and see if you can find and name the ducks, which have been decorated by children from the village school and hidden. Trail sheets are available from the school and The Royal Oak pub from 9am on Saturday, September 20, costing £2.50. A children's trail is also available.
  • WALKERS will be getting ready to ramble tomorrow. The Mid Wilts Ramblers will host A Canal and Two Rivers Walk from 9.30am, meeting at the Tesco car park in Devizes. The walk, of around seven miles, lasts until around 4pm and all are welcome.
  • THE Shambles Market, in Devizes, takes place on Sunday, September 21, from 8am. The market, which has been running for 12 years, features stalls offering a variety of antiques, vintage items, jewellery, and collectibles. There are also Bric-a-brac and Charity stalls.
  • ...marking time...along the Western Flyer is a free exhibition highlighting the first stages of improvement works on the two-mile cycle and pedestrian route linking West Swindon with the town centre. The project also takes a step back in time, exploring the rich heritage of the areas that it passes through. It runs at West Swindon Library until September 26 and is open from 9.30am until 5pm.
  • THE role of the GWR in World War One is explored at an exhibition running at STEAM until the end of the year. In the centenary year of the Great War, the display explores the role of the railway, from munitions work, to specialist locomotives and carriages, as well as how GWR employees were affected by war, not only the men who went to fight, but also the men and women who were left behind.
  • The exhibition is free with museum admission and is open from 10am to 5pm. Call 01793 466646 for more details.
  • BLUNSDON House Hotel, Swindon, will host a wedding fayre on Sunday, September 21, from 11am until 3pm. Entry is free and for more details email events@blunsdonhouse.co.uk or call 01793 721701.
  • A MEMORY walk will raise awareness and money to fight dementia. The event takes place at Corsham Park from 11am on Sunday, September 21. Registration opens at at 10am. For more information and to sign up contact the Memory Walk Team on 0845 3060 898 or email memorywalk@alzheimers.org.uk.
  • EYES down for some Sunday afternoon bingo. The RAFA Club in Swindon hosts a session from noon. Call 01793 201349 for more details.
  • THE Devizes Band John will be performing at Coles Park, Chippenham, from 3pm on Sunday, September 21. For more information call 01249 446699.
  • SWINDON Town will welcome Sheffield United to the County Ground on Saturday afternoon for what Town manager Mark Cooper says is sure to be an "entertaining game". Kick off is at 3pm. Visit swindontownfc.co.uk for more details.

AN EXTRA EVENT: Boat trips are running up the Wilts and Berks Canal on the narrowboat Dragonfly. Lasting about an hour, the trips set sail from the Kingshill landing stage and feature indoor and outdoor seating. Tickets cost £5 for adults, children are free. To book call 01793 827678.
