SWINDON’s Time Banks in Penhill and Taw Hill are looking to expand to encompass the whole of North Swindon.

Like any other bank, the Time Bank takes deposits and allow withdrawals, but unlike ordinary banks, the currency is time not money.

Members deposit an hour in the bank by contributing their time, and then withdraw an hour when they need a service.

Time Bank North Swindon will give local residents the opportunity to get to know each other, form friendships and contribute to their community.

Regular Time Bank activities already running include five-a-side evening football at Orchid Vale School; fortnightly morning craft sessions at North Swindon Library; and a six-weekly evening Book Club at Asda Orbital.

Anyone can join the Time Bank and attend the regular or one-off special group events.

New members are welcome and it is expected that new groups will be set up across North Swindon to suit people’s needs.

“Anyone can join the local Time Bank. Everyone will find they have something to give and can benefit from the friendship of others,” said a group spokesman.
