ANONYMOUS donors have astounded fundraisers in memory of biker Mikkie Mahon with a huge £10,000 gift to his partner and unborn baby.

Twenty-eight-year-old Mikkie died while travelling on a ride in the Forest of Dean on September 28, and has left behind his girlfriend Charlotte, seven months pregnant with their baby girl.

Friends and family of the hugely popular and inspirational salesman at the Blade Trade Centre have been earnestly fundraising to provide Charlotte some security when the couple’s first child arrives.

Early targets of £1,000 have now been smashed and the sky is the limit for the fundraising team after the single lump payment of £10,000 brought the total nearing £14,000.

On Monday, the donation came through from four very close friends, with the message: “Mikkie, you will be sorely missed, our thoughts are with Charlotte and your family.”

Colleagues at the Blade Trade Centre were delighted.

Darren Neal said: “It is a massive boost to the fundraising and we are so taken aback with how it has been received. There are still more than 20 days to run, and while we would like to raise as much as possible, £20,000 is in sight for us now.

“The donors who gave £10,000 are some people who were very close to Mikkie, but have wanted to remain anonymous. It is a wonderful anonymous donation, and is fantastic for the cause.”

Darren confirmed it was a genuine gift and no fingers had slipped on keyboards while offering up the cash.

“It is a genuine donation and there was no mistake,” he said.

“Things are going brilliantly, and the Facebook pages have really taken off. There are people we are going to be visiting and giving a bit of a shake to keep the fundraising rolling along, and there are some business partners we are going to speak to again.”

The team are still coming to terms with the loss of their colleague after a huge send-off saw hundreds of bikers stream through Swindon streets last Thursday for his funeral.

“It is taking a while for everything to sink in properly for everybody to be honest,” Darren said. “We are all getting there slowly but surely. Everyone is trying to come to terms with what has been a huge loss.

“We are going to be having a celebrity biker evening later in the year to try to raise a bit more money that way. We are not sure who will be coming along yet, but in the past we have had the likes of Isle of Man TT racer John McGuinness, as well as British champions and world champions.

"It will be a celebrity interview and fact file. We empty one of the back showrooms and invite people to come down and have an evening of entertainment.”

The event will be held on December 4 at the Blade Trade Centre at 7pm. To make a donation visit https://www.justgiving.com/yimby/mikkie#.
