POWER Rangers, Batman and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have joined forces to support the annual Children in Need appeal.

This year’s theme is superheroes and pupils from Liden Primary School got behind the campaign yesterday, donning the costumes of their favourites.

The BBC charity’s mascot Pudsey the Bear made a special visit to the Liden Drive school to praise their efforts and thank the children for their support.

To spearhead this year’s appeal celebrities including singer Sir Tom Jones, actress Helena Bonham Carter and celebrity chef Paul Hollywood have also dressed as superheroes and called on the nation to ‘sign up, pledge their allegiance and be a hero’.

A Children in Need fundraising spokesperson said: “At BBC Children in Need, our fundraisers are our heroes, without them we wouldn’t be able to make the difference that we do to the lives of disadvantaged children and young people right here in the UK.”

This year’s televised appeal is taking place on Friday, November 14. The festivities will be coming live from Albert Square, the home of TV soap EastEnders.

Sir Terry Wogan, Tess Daly, Fearne Cotton, and Nick Grimshaw will be hosting the event with highlights including The One Show’s Rickshaw Challenge as well as Strictly Come Dancing and Doctor Who specials.

Sir Terry, BBC Children in Need Life President, said: “It was my privilege to present the very first Children in Need in 1980 and over the years it has truly become the British Public’s charity.

“Their extraordinary generosity has meant that their donations of over £740m have made a real difference to the lives of this country’s disadvantaged children and young people.”
