FIVE people were arrested as Wiltshire Police worked to keep supporters safe when Swindon Town hosted Bristol City on Saturday.
Due to the fierce rivalry between the two clubs more than 150 officers were on duty for the match.
A key part of their work was keeping both sets of supporters separate with the police escorting City’s fans, travelling by train, to and from the County Ground.
The arrests relate to disorder outside the ground.
Superintendent Andrew Carr, local police commander: “We are pleased with how the police operation went. The whole event was successful although a few of the minority were involved in minor disorder.
“Several smoke flares were also set off and we will continue our investigations to find out who was responsible. None of the public or officers were injured but it always disappointing that a few who chose to break the law threaten the safety of the public who are there to enjoy the football.”
Anyone with information is asked to call the police on 101.
