A MOTHER who lost three sons in just six year had a merry Christmas at last thanks to the Adver.

Shirley King, 57, of Park North, received £500 worth of Asda vouchers, courtesy of Persimmon, after being nominated by her close friend Ann Renicks.

Shirley, a grandmother of nine and great-grandmother of two, lost her 25-year-old son Carl, 35-year-old son Paul and 38-year-old son Alan in tragic circumstances.

As well as the emotional toll their passing caused, their funerals left Shirley, who raised two of her grandchildren, struggling financially.

This prompted Ann to seek help from Christmas Wish campaign and give her friend the worry-free Christmas she deserved.

This year, we are again urging readers to nominate a special person or group in the Christmas Wish Appeal 2014, which will run from December 11 to Christmas Eve. We want to hear from you if you know someone who deserves a special treat.

Ann, of Walcot, who has been friends with Shirley for more than 40 years, said: “In the space of six years she lost three sons and she brought up two of her grandchildren. There were two funerals within 12 months and she had no money, nothing. She didn’t really want to think about Christmas but she had to because of the grandchildren. It was really hard for her. If anybody deserved this, she did. She is a very strong person.”

Speaking to the Adver following news of her nomination, Shirley said: “I was shocked when I found out, but it is a nice surprise. I didn’t celebrate Christmas last year because my son died. This voucher means I can have a nice worry-free Christmas this year.”
