SWINDON Town players are to be spoken to by club officials about their celebrations following their 1-0 victory of Bristol City at the weekend.

After the full time whistle, Nathan Thompson celebrated in front of the away fans prompting a number of upset City fans to complain to complain to the police.

Today police said they would be working with the club to prevent any more ‘unhelpful’ celebrations Swindon manager Mark Cooper said the atmosphere needs to be taken into account.

He said: “It’s something that we will speak about internally. I think what you must remember what the atmosphere was like. We’ve got a lot of young players and some boys that are Swindon through and through.

“I saw it as it happened, that’s the reason I went on to the pitch to bring the boys (towards the Town End) to celebrate with the fans.

"I thought it was part of my job to try and make sure that nothing escalated – which it didn’t. It’s been all been dealt with in house.”

Chief Superintendent Andrew Carr, speaking on the BBC, said yesterday that police would be speaking with the club to point out that celebrations like those seen on Saturday could make their job of keeping people safe harder.
