RESIDENTS were given healthy eating tips as part of the Diabetes UK Enjoy Food stand at Tesco this week.

People with diabetes were invited to pop into the store in Ocotal Way, to get free dietary advice and simple suggestions on how to make living with diabetes more manageable.

A dietitian, with support from volunteers, gave demonstrations about ways to save money as well as calories and how to eat five portions of fruit and vegetables a day.

Diabetes is a condition where there is too much glucose in the blood because the body cannot use it properly. Whether a person is living with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, eating healthily is an important part of managing blood glucose levels and staying healthy.

Diabetes UK South West manager Phaedra Perry said: “People with diabetes often tell us that simple food decisions, like what to eat together as a family or how to introduce more fruit and vegetables, can cause great anxiety and concern.

“So we hope that knowing more about the healthy food choices available to them would have a hugely positive impact on their daily family life.

That’s why we’ve developed the Enjoy Food events with Tesco, our National Charity Partner. It’s about making food enjoyable again for families living with diabetes.”
