LABOUR leader Ed Miliband says he believes his Party has what it takes to win over Swindon voters at the next election.

The leader of the opposition was in Swindon visiting Tetronics International, in South Marston, to promote the Party’s green credentials yesterday.

The firm is a global leader in the supply of systems to turn waste material into valuable commercial products, without impacting on the environment.

During the visit he also spoke about the Party’s chances at the next election.

Although the Conservatives increased their seats in the council chamber at May’s local elections, Mr Miliband says Labour can be successful next year. He said: “We won the popular vote in South Swindon at the local elections. We know we have a fight on our hands but one we can be confident about.

“You have a government which say the economy is fixed and everything is fine and you’ve got us who are saying we need to change things.

“What we are talking about today on green jobs is exactly that. How do we get the kind of jobs people need in Swindon?

“Unless you have a government which is committed on climate change, which is what we will be, you are not going to get the investment.

“What this company have said is if there is uncertainty then that is not going help and you won’t get the investment.

“We have got a plan to make Swindon work again for working people and that’s what we are fighting for.”

Questions have been raised as to whether Mr Miliband is the right person to lead the Party following a number of gaffs.

Among them was when he appeared to not know who Swindon Labour Group Leader Jim Grant was in an interview in May this year.

However, Mr Miliband says he can deliver for the people of Swindon and will be on hand to help Coun Grant next year.

“I spoke with Jim today. I think Jim has got a good campaign for the elections,” he said.

“He is fighting for exactly the same things we are fighting for, a living wage and affordable homes, and I am looking forward to coming down to support his campaign in a few months.”
