HIS devotion to his boss knows no bounds, and Alex Farrant proved it when he dyed his hair fiery red to boost her fundraising effort for the 160 Appeal.

Alex, an employee at the Spotted Cow, in Coate, placed his well-groomed head in the hands of his deputy manager, Caroline Hull, to help her reach her £4,000 target for Prospect Hospice.

He succeeded in collecting no fewer than £200 in sponsorships.

Caroline, 47, will set off on a 500km Rajasthan bike ride in November next year in support of the hospice, which cared for her mother Dorothy until she died of bowel cancer at the age of 76.

But her dream of travelling to India will only become reality if she secures the £4,000 necessary.

Caroline said: “My mum never went into the hospice but they were there for her at home.

“They were always there for the family. You don’t know what to do, you have not been through it before and they’re there to help.

“Alex had his hair dyed bright red, which was the colour chosen by The Spotted Cow customers.” She will be accompanied on the daunting challenge by her brother-in-law Richard.

Caroline has so far raised £3,258. As for Richard he has reached the £2,000 mark.
