SINGER songwriter Shannon Saunders – who releases her debut single, Silly Little Things, on Monday – has enjoyed something of a Cinderella-style success story.

Shannon, 20, who lives near Royal Wootton Bassett, was spotted through YouTube by Disney Channel UK and sang in the Disney competitionMyCamp Rock 2,which she won.

She later sang I Saw The Light for the soundtrack of Disney’s 50th animated feature film, Tangled, based on the story of Rapunzel.

The Disney job gave her the confidence to forge a career in music, and she now has an album ready for release, a UK tour planned for the New Year and more than 56,000 YouTube subscribers.

She said: “56,000 is a ridiculous amount. I can remember dancing around the house when I hit 1,000."

Shannon said the initial idea of posting her music on YouTube came from teen icon Justin Bieber, who blazed the trail with his songs.

“I was a bored youngster with nothing to do. I thought to myself ‘Justin Bieber has done it, why can’t I?’’’ she said.

Yet despite fame at an early age, Shannon has kept her feet firmly on the ground, and believes in taking little steps towards her goals.

The former Royal Wootton Bassett School student still lives at home with her parents, John and Linda, but spends a lot of her time in the studio in London.

“I have a very supportive family and while my dad doesn’t take me around so much, as I learned to drive myself, he is still coming on tour with me,’’ she said.

“My sister, cousin and best friend are all in the Brick Lane area of London so we hang out there and go vintage shopping.’’

One of her biggest fans is Noel Clarke, who played Nicky Smith in Doctor Who, and he is going to feature in her next music video.

Shannon’s own independent label, Lovejoy Records, is set to release her debut album in the summer.

It has taken her three years to write the songs for the album, which has a coming of age theme, reflecting her experience of growing up from the little princess into a woman.

“Each song has a different emotion, about relationships and partying, all things we go through,’’ she said.

“The Disney princess thing was great for me when I was young, especially recording at Abbey Road Studios, but now my music is more serious and darker.’’

Shannon has written with writers and producers such as Dee Adam, Amy Wadge, Wilkinson, and Eg White. She also recently toured with the drum and bass DJ Mark Wilkinson, and is the guest singer on his new song, Breeze, which is out in the summer.

“I was on the tour bus with 16 boys. It was a big experience – I had to learn to love Xbox and FIFA – but we played at some big venues including the O2 in London,” she said.
