PLANS are coming together for the first ever Christmas party for the residents of North Swindon.

Following the huge success of the first Community Fun Day earlier this year, the organisers are hosting another event to build on the community spirit. A party will take place at the Haydon Centre for families to celebrate the festive period.

The details are still being decided but organisers are promising it will offer something different for al.

Suzi Gatward, 33, who is part of the organising committee, said: “We do not want to be a one trick pony. You can see from the number of people who came along to that there is a demand for these events and we didn’t want to leave it another year before the next one.

“There is a great community spirit in North Swindon but because there have not been events like these before people are not always able to see it.

“At the fun day there were loads of people who came along and you could see them chatting away to all their neighbours.

“My partner met some friends he hadn’t seen for years that he didn’t know lived in the area, so it’s really good for bringing people together.”

It is hoped the party’s proximity to Christmas will help add to the festive feel and attract as many people as possible.

“We are keen to make this a little bit different to other Christmas parties and I want it to appeal to children of all ages,” said Suzi, a mum-of-three.

“There will definitely be a pop-up photo booth for people to have their picture taken with a silly wig and also lots of games. A number of surprise guests will also be there, who will be revealed on the day. Of course there will also be mince pies.

“It is going to be the day after the schools break-up and five days before Christmas so I imagine the children will be excited and full of energy. The only drawback is people will need to buy tickets in advance because we are limited with the amount of space we have available.”

The party will be held at the Haydon Centre on December 20, from 1pm to 3pm. Tickets will go on sale in December from nscommunitygroup.org.uk, where full details of the party will be available.
