AUDIENCES at Swindon Dance were wowed on Saturday when renowned choreographer Anuradha Chaturvedi performed her latest dance.

Drishti Dance, which was presented in association with the South Asian Performing Arts Centre, provided a rare opportunity to enjoy traditional and contemporary Kathak compositions inspired by Indian philosophy, mythology, folklore and medieval Indo-Persian literature.

The one-woman show featured Panchtatva – The Five Elements – which was a work exploring the concept of an interaction of Kathak dance and digital media.

Lizzie Bond, development and communications manager at Swindon Dance, said: “It is such a privilege to be able to showcase classical Kathak dance in our theatre, bringing a little bit of India to Swindon.

“Drishti Dance and dancer / choreographer Anuradha Chaturvedi are true experts in this dance form and it really showed on Saturday night.

“Dance not only has the power bring cultures to life, it can also bring cultures together, as dance is a universal language that anyone can understand.”

Upcoming events at Swindon Dance include Motionhouse at the Wyvern Theatre in February and Figure Ground from the Yorke Dance Project.
