IT may have been held indoors, but visitors to this year’s Stratton Christmas Extravaganza were still left Frozen.

The Disney film was at the heart of the event, which took place at The Grange Leisure Centre, on Thursday.

Characters, such as Else and Olaf, were on hand to meet and greet visitors, along with Father Christmas and even some reindeer.

“It went fabulously well,” said organiser Jodie Smart, who is also admin assistant at Stratton St Margaret Parish Council.

“Frozen was obviously very popular, as were the reindeer, possibly more popular than Santa himself.”

She said visitors also had the chance to buy Christmas gifts and other extras from more than 30 stalls at the centre, while taking part in a chocolate tombola, a raffle and savouring a raft of food and drink.

Jodie added: “We had everything from handbags, to sweets, to cupcakes crafts, pretty much everything you can think of.”

The Grange Federation and Reindeer Rockers choirs were also on hand to provide entertainment, while around 350 children got to meet Santa Claus, with hundreds more pouring through the doors to savour the festive fun.

This year featured a special event to mark the climax of the extravaganza, Jodie said.

“We had a big fireworks finale, which was the first one we’ve ever had. That was very impressive.”

However, for organisers such as Jodie, the process of evaluating the event and thinking about next year starts all over again immediately.

“We are already discussing what we could improve for next year, what worked well and what didn’t work so well,” she said.

“We will talk about that and then, probably after Christmas, we will really start planning.”
