YOUNGSTERS will be treading the boards for parents at Peatmoor Primary School today when they take part in a performance about the First World War.

Key Stage 2 children who have been learning about the Great War will don soldier uniforms and tin hats as part of the production, which focuses on the unforgettable mid-war football match between the Germans and the Allies in the trenches.

Sarah Adams, KS2 Leader at Peatmoor Primary School, said: “We wanted to put this performance on because it is 100 years since the start of the First World War this year and we wanted to do something to mark it.

“The children have really enjoyed being able to take part and dress up in the uniforms, and it’s been a really useful way to explore the themes on our curriculum.

“It’s important for the children to learn about the First World War.

“It’s good for them to know about the people who fought and died for their country and for them to know the historical facts and how it affects us here today, so that they can tell their children and grandchildren.”

The performance is just one of several events the school has organised in order to teach the children about the Great War.

Sarah said: “We have had a couple of history days and the children have been learning about the Great War in their lessons too.”
