SOUL singer and X Factor runner-up Jahmene Douglas met his mini me after testing Asda Walmart’s brand new 3D printing body scanner.

The performer was invited to the Orbital Shopping Park store to be one of the first in Swindon to have his likeness captured in figurine form.

Jahmene was shown into a special booth equipped with a full-body scanner, which took thousands of images from every angle during a 12-second scan.

The images were then processed by a computer, which created a digital 3D image, with accurate geometric shaping and colouring.

The singer was able to get a sneak peek at his mini-me on-screen before it was sent to an off-site 3D printer where it will be turned into a detailed eight-inch porcelain statue.

Jahmene, 23, said he had found the prospect of having his own figurine made overwhelming.

“It was quick and sweet,” he said.

“Having all these pictures taken was no worse than the paparazzi. But it was a strange experience. I think I would definitely pay for someone to have it done, like my sister, my mother or a friend. But it would be a bit weird for someone to have a figurine of me in 3D.

“I’m not very good at standing still. It’s very hard when you’re hyped up on Haribo.”

His visit to his former workplace was the opportunity for a catch up with old colleagues and friends and to tell them about his future projects. His second album is due to come out next spring.

“It’s nice to catch up with friends,” he said.

“Asda is like a family. It’s about community for the staff and customers and I’m really about community.”

Of course he shared his opinion about the latest X Factor final.

“I didn’t watch the final but I watched the one before that," he said. "I thought Fleur would win.”

General merchandise section leader Hannah Evans, 23, who worked alongside Jahmene and in fact ‘check-out trained’ him before his rise to fame was delighted to see he remained as grounded and humble as ever.

She said: “It’s nice to see him and see he’s doing so well for himself. He is such a nice guy. He has not changed in the slightest which is nice. He is so lovely.”

The Asda store is one of just 10 selected across the UK to house a 3D printing body scanner. The porcelain figurines cost a minimum of £59.
